Burdens of the Kappa
It has happened! The Highmen, and all that they created, have been swallowed by the Primals!

Now, as we rise from the dark and hidden places of scarcity, it is important to remember our tales, our history. For if we forget them or the lessons within them, we are doomed to be cast back, once more.
Long, long ago, when the great waters were still, and the land was young and whole, the Primal Mother would wander the lush landscape of this world. She enjoyed all she surveyed and saw its potential to support and shelter other beings. She scooped up some mud from the water's edge and took up some reeds and with them shaped the first, the udimmu. They were multi-headed, multi-eyed, multi-limbed, multi-mouthed, multi-tailed. And with a gentle breath from her, all were woken!
The other Primal Spirits soon noticed her creations and fought over their purpose. One suggested they were to eat, another assumed they were to offer chase for entertainment, one was sure they were containers for knowledge, while another interpreted them as children to be nurtured. This is how the Primal Mother realized the other spirits needed her creations too.
She encouraged each of the other Primal Spirits to impart a part of themselves upon the udimmu. And so, they did. They were equal parts fierce, brave, strong, cunning, caring, and playful. At first, they explored the world in wonder at all that was, but their awe soon turned into monotony as time stretched on. The spirits realized their mistake was making one being with equal parts of themselves. For one to hunt, the other had to be prey. For one to avoid becoming prey one must be cunning. For one to be nurtured it had to be weak.
The Primal Mother knew what was required of her. She raked a mighty claw across her creations, splitting them right down the middle. Then with another swipe, she sliced her creations once more, and again! When she was done, her udimmu, once uniform in body and mind, were now a myriad of body types and personalities. There were some who were scaled and stood upon four legs, some were covered in fur and on two, some had tails, some not, some hard exteriors and spindly legs.
The Primal Spirits were pleased. Now they could inspire the creatures differently from one another, and themselves be enriched by the demonstrations of their aspects upon the land, in return. And so, through generations disparate life spread across the land: multiplying, hunting, hiding, defending, dying.
The world had changed over time, too. The great waters, once calm ripples, now crashed upon the shores in wrathful waves, and the land had become rugged and rough, providing the inhabitants with different settings and challenges in with to thrive. All was within the natural order.
Then some outsiders, beings not created of the Primal Mother, landed upon the shore. They were greedy and lazy, haughty beings who sought indulgences and the servitude of others. Some of the Primal Mother's creatures fought back as they were able; claws scratched, beaks pecked, hooves trampled. Our ancestors, those who were kappa, ran. And when the Primal Mother came looking for them, to ask why they had not joined the battle, she found them cowering, hiding under stones in the shallows.
So angry was she that she cursed them to carry the stones upon their backs from that time forward. Forever, would they and their descendants be burdened with the stones they cowered under and the knowledge that they had shamed the Primal Mother. Left as they were, scared and transformed, the outsiders enslaved our ancestors, with ease.
Over the vast years, other outsiders, like the Highmen, came to the shores bringing needs, magics, and war with them. At the dawn of the Age of Turmoil our masters were finally defeated, for good, and our ancestors were freed. The few who had survived ran and hid, scattering to the far corners and crevices of Odus. It was from one of these hidden enclaves where the prophecy of the big bite was first heard.
"When all the Primal Mother's blessed lands, from the highest peak to the deepest rock, is tainted by the magics and will of the outsiders, the Primal Spirits will take a bite from the land, one so big it will swallow them all."
For years the prophecy was shared, recited and spread from one tribe to another. It was an ember of hope in the dark, even for the most skeptical and pessimistic. Several times, terrible events witnessed or felt, caused anticipation for the bite, but when it didn't happen, we knew to brace ourselves for an even larger offense.
That is, until the prophesied day was upon us!

Not a leaf, not a creature, not a gem of Odus, did not feel the sudden surge of Highmen magic that fateful day. Whatever they had done or were attempting to do, was met with a swift and ferocious bite!
Just as foreseen, the Highmen have met their end, and from the devastated remains of this land, we kappa are emerging, once more. Upon the surface we will find lands abundant with food and shelter, and with it, our chance at redemption.
We must keep this tale and the trials of our people close, else we find ourselves burdened with bigger stone and cast from the lands of Primal Mother, for good!
